Focus and Scope

At-Ta'lim: Islamic Education Information Media [in English: At-Ta'lim: Islamic Education Information Media] focuses on publishing original articles on current issues and trends dedicated to developing knowledge and research in Islamic education, both in Indonesia and globally (internationally). In addition to original articles, the scope of this journal also covers issues related to Islamic education, including but not limited to the following themes:

  • Islamic Education in Madrasah (Islamic Schools): 

    This theme covers the models and implementation of Islamic education in madrasahs, including Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (Islamic elementary schools), Madrasah Tsanawiyah (Islamic junior high schools), Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic senior high schools), and Madrasah Aliyah Kejuruan (Islamic vocational schools). It focuses on curriculum development, teaching methods, and the role of madrasahs in shaping students' character and intellect. Additionally, this theme includes discussions on the role and contribution of madrasahs as Islamic educational institutions and contemporary challenges in enhancing the quality of Islamic education amidst modernization.
  • Islamic Education in Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School): This theme examines the educational models applied in pesantrens, both salaf (traditional) and khalaf (modern), their curriculum models and teaching methods, and the role and function of pesantrens as religious institutions. It also accepts discussions on Islamic education programs in pesantrens focused on deradicalization and the global challenges pesantrens face in the modern era.
  • Islamic Education in Families and Communities: This theme explores Islamic-based parenting practices within families and the role of the community in supporting Islamic education through religious and social activities, mosque-based teaching, and the formation of moral and social values grounded in religious teachings. It also addresses the role of families and communities as the first schools in shaping children's character, emphasizing the importance of religious education in daily life at home and how parents and the community can serve as role models in practising Islamic teachings within the family and society.
  • Culturally-Based Islamic Education: This theme focuses on integrating Islamic education with local culture and community traditions and the integration of Islamic teachings with the community's culture without compromising religious principles. It also covers the use of local wisdom in the process of Islamic learning, involving teaching Islamic values aligned with the local social and cultural context, such as in traditional ceremonies, folk arts, and cultural practices that have become part of everyday community life.
  • Sufism-Based Islamic Education: This theme examines integrating Islamic education models grounded in tasawuf (Sufism), emphasizing spiritual development and character building. It also explores how Sufi values, such as inner purity, love, peace of heart, and deeper social consciousness, can be integrated into Islamic education.
  • Islamic Education from the Perspective of the Philosophy of Science: This theme focuses on integrating Islamic education with the philosophy of science and how the philosophy of science can underpin educational approaches within the Islamic tradition. It includes discussions on the development of philosophical thought based on Islamic principles covering ontology, epistemology, and axiology within the context of Islamic education, as well as how the philosophy of science can provide a robust theoretical framework for Islamic education in the modern world.
  • Management and Organization in Islamic Education: This theme covers various aspects of management and organization in Islamic educational institutions, including curriculum management, human resources management, and operational efficiency. It also includes discussions on strategic planning in developing Islamic educational institutions, covering vision, mission, and long-term goals in alignment with Islamic values and principles. This involves analyzing how Islamic educational institutions can effectively plan and manage resources to achieve high-quality educational goals.
