Peer Review Process
All submissions to Jurnal Ilmiah Syi'ar undergo a rigorous peer-review process to ensure the quality and validity of the published research. The journal implements a double-blind peer review process, ensuring that both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous. The review process is conducted by experts in the relevant fields of Islamic studies, who evaluate manuscripts based on their scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal's scope.
Initial Evaluation
Upon receiving a manuscript, the editorial board conducts an initial screening to verify that the manuscript aligns with the journal's scope and adheres to the author guidelines. Manuscripts that fall outside the journal's focus or fail to meet publication standards will be rejected without further review. During this stage, a plagiarism check is conducted, and manuscripts with a similarity score exceeding 30% will be rejected. Additionally, the editorial office reviews the article’s formatting and citation style to ensure compliance with the author guidelines. Manuscripts requiring formatting adjustments will be returned to the authors for revision before further consideration. If the manuscript passes this stage, it proceeds to the review process.
Assignment of Reviewers
The editorial board assigns two to three independent reviewers who are experts in the specific field covered by the manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and experience in the relevant area of Islamic studies. The identities of both authors and reviewers are anonymised to maintain the integrity of the review process. The title page, acknowledgements, and any references to author contributions are removed to ensure anonymity. Invitations are sent to reviewers who are typically affiliated with institutions different from those of the corresponding authors. Reviewers are requested to accept or decline the invitation within one week.
Review Process
Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on its academic quality, originality, clarity, and contribution to Islamic studies. They are provided with a two-week timeframe to complete their review. The review process includes constructive feedback, which may recommend acceptance, rejection, or revision of the manuscript. The reviewers’ comments and suggestions aim to help authors enhance the quality and clarity of their work.
Editorial Decision
The editor-in-chief makes the final decision regarding acceptance, rejection, or revision based on the reviewers' feedback and the manuscript's adherence to publication standards. In cases where reviewer comments differ significantly, an additional reviewer may be invited for further evaluation. The final decision, along with anonymised reviewer comments, is communicated to the author through the online submission system. On average, the time from submission to the first decision is one month.
Revision Process
If revisions are required, authors are provided with reviewer comments and asked to revise the manuscript accordingly. Revised manuscripts must include a tracked-changes version highlighting the revisions made, as well as a response letter addressing the reviewers’ comments. For minor revisions, authors are given two weeks, while major revisions allow up to four weeks. Manuscripts requiring substantial revisions may undergo a second round of review by the same reviewers to ensure all concerns have been adequately addressed. Minor revisions may be evaluated by the editor without additional review.
Publication
Once the manuscript is accepted for publication, authors are required to submit a final version that is copyedited and formatted for publication. The manuscript will then be scheduled for inclusion in the next available issue of the journal.
This peer-review process ensures that all manuscripts submitted to Jurnal Ilmiah Syi'ar are evaluated with the highest standards of academic integrity and ethical conduct, ensuring the publication of high-quality research in the field of Islamic communication and broadcast.
