Abstract

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of health conditions characterized by several risk factors, including high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar levels, abdominal fat accumulation, and abnormal blood lipid levels, primarily due to lifestyle and dietary changes. These conditions lead to widespread health issues, including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and other health problems. Nurses are the frontline professionals focused on preventing the occurrence of metabolic syndrome. This training aims to enhance the capabilities of the Care.p.mu organization, comprising nurses, in educating and managing patients with metabolic syndrome or at risk of developing it, enabling nurses to provide accurate and optimal education. The training took place in the Mulyorejo area of Surabaya from July to August 2024. Twelve members of Care.p.mu participated in the activity, also serving as respondents. The methods used included focus group discussions, pre-tests and post-tests, and the provision of materials and sharing sessions. The results showed that education-based training using pre-tests and post-tests can enhance nurses' knowledge related to metabolic syndrome. The statistical curve indicated a significant increase without fluctuation, leading to the conclusion that continuous metabolic syndrome training is necessary to support prevention efforts in patients with metabolic syndrome. Collaboration with other health institutions or metabolic syndrome experts can also provide broader perspectives and knowledge.
