Identifikasi Kemiskinan dan Strategi Optimasi Sumber Penghidupan Petani Kelapa di Desa Karangrejo, Kabupaten Trenggalek

Abstract

The coconut commodity has potential to improve farmers' welfare.
Unfortunately, this potential is often wasted. This research aims to identify the causes of poverty among coconut farmers in Karangrejo Village, Kampak District, Trenggalek Regency to formulate strategies or policies that can break the chain of poverty through a sustainable livelihood framework. This research uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. The informants were chosen deliberately, namely from farmer groups, middlemen, the Village Government, and the Agriculture and Food Service of Trenggalek Regency. The data obtained is then reduced, categorized, then displayed in the form of images and narratives, then concluded. This research identified significant
risk factors such as planthopper pests, lack of agricultural resources, dependence on one commodity, and climate change. On the other hand, there are also sustainable livelihood assets that can support coconut farming in the village, such as fertile land, abundant coconut productivity, availability of compost and organic fertilizer resources. The empowerment strategies that can be used to increase livelihood assets are: (1) providing training and mentoring, (2) diversifying agricultural products, (3) developing appropriate infrastructure and technology, (4) initiation of cooperative institutions for coconut farmers, and (5) Developing agricultural insurance policies that can protect coconut farmers with weak economies.
