Initially, Madania: Jurnal Kajian Keislaman is a journal managed by the Center of Islam and Culture Study (PPIK) of State College for Islamic Studies (STAIN) Bengkulu published twice a year. The theme for this journal was Islam and Culture Transformation and first published in 1998 with ISSN (print): 140-8143. In 2000, the journal was accredited “A”, by the Decree of General Director of Higher Education, Department of National Education with No. 69 / DIKTI / Kep / 2000. For many reasons, this journal was not accredited and re-recorded with the same ISSN and theme on May 29, 2007. After a long journey, Madania finally got its accreditation back with the notation “B” by the Decree of General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture No. 212 / P / 2014, with the theme "Islamic studies" which is valid until August 2019. This theme was taken because the journal will focus only on examining Islam thematically, not widening in a culture that could have multiple interpretations touching on various studies. By the rules of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences-Center for Scientific Documentation and Information (PDII-LIPI), for online publishing, Madania registered its electronic ISSN and finally, on 12th November 2015, it acquired its E-ISSN number: 2502-1826.
