ANALYSIS OF MATHEMATICAL THINKING ABILITY OF GRADE VII STUDENTS ON ALGEBRA MATERIAL AT SMPN 34 BATAM

Abstract


This study aims to analyze mathematical thinking ability in algebra material of seventh grade students. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study were students of class VII.C SMPN 34 Batam which amounted to 35 students. The 35 students were grouped based on the category of mathematical thinking ability which consisted of three categories namely high, medium, and low. Each category consists of 1 student. Data collection techniques in this study were carried out using test and interview techniques. Indicators of mathematical thinking ability are reproduction, connection, and analysis. The research data on mathematical thinking ability showed that students in the high category had all fulfilled the three indicators of mathematical thinking ability, while students in the medium category had not all fulfilled the three indicators of mathematical thinking ability, while in the low category were only able to fulfill one indicator of mathematical thinking ability.
