UTILIZATION OF DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY IN CONNECTING MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS WITH DAILY LIFE IN THE INDEPENDENT CURRICULUM

Abstract


This study aims to explore the use of digital technology in connecting mathematical concepts with students' daily lives in the Merdeka Curriculum at MTs Makrifatul Ilmi Bengkulu Selatan. Based on the theory of constructivism, mathematical realism, and multimedia learning theory, digital technology has the potential to support understanding of abstract concepts, increase the relevance of learning, and encourage student engagement. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students, direct observations in class, and document analysis such as lesson implementation plans (RPP) and student work results. The analysis was carried out using thematic methods to identify main patterns and themes. The results showed that digital technology, such as interactive software, dynamic geometry applications, and contextual learning videos, were very effective in visualizing abstract concepts such as spatial geometry, probability, and function graphs. Technology also increases student motivation, because it allows them to see real applications of mathematical concepts, such as in building design and calculating daily costs. However, this study also identified challenges, including limited access to technological devices, lack of digital literacy among teachers, and technical constraints such as unstable internet connections. This study concludes that the integration of digital technology can enrich mathematics learning in accordance with the principles of the Independent Curriculum, by increasing conceptual understanding and relevance of learning. For more optimal implementation, it is recommended to have support for technological facilities, digital literacy training for teachers, and the development of contextual learning resources that are appropriate to the local needs of students. This study provides important implications for the development of technology-based learning in junior high schools.
