Analisis Semantik Term al-Rahman, al-Rahim dan al-Ra'uf dalam al-Qur'an

Abstract

This study analyzes several of Allah’s beautiful names using the semantic method as a reinforcement to deeply explore the meaning of each term. Generally, the names discussed in this research share a similar meaning, namely al-Rahman, al-Rahim, and al-Ro’uf. Similarly, people’s understanding of these names often leads to the assumption that they all convey the same meaning, which is “Allah’s mercy toward his servants.” However, in the Qur’an, these three names are mentioned with distinct nuances of meaning. Nevertheless,from a broader perspective, they are still perceived as conveying the same fundamental concept. One approach to resolving this ambiguity and clarifying their meanings is through the semantic method. This method, being a branch of linguistics, serves as a tool to elucidate the precise meanings of words. This study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing library research and incorporating semantic analysis to extract the required meanings. The findings of this study reveal variations in meaning. These differences become evident when each term is juxtaposed with other words. However, such juxtapositions must adhere to specific linguistic principles. Furthermore, this research underscores the linguistic beauty of Allah’s speech - where a single word can carry multiple interpretations. Another significant outcome from a semantic perspective is the deeper understanding of how semantics analyzes words to uncover their precise meanings.
