Focus and Scope
This journal publishes original articles on the latest issues and trends in Islamic education (philosophy, curriculum, instruction, learning, policy, and Islamic education theory and practice). In addition to original articles, the journal features the following special sections:
- Learning: consisting of theoretical and empirical research studies on learning of Islamic education. We invite manuscripts that investigate learning and its change and growth from various lenses, including psychological, social, cognitive, socio-historical, and affective. Studies examining the relationship of learning to teaching, the knowledge and practices, the learners themselves, and the contexts (social, political, physical, ideological, institutional, epistemological, and cultural) are similarly welcome.
- Issues and Trends: consisting primarily of analytical, interpretive, or persuasive essays on current Islamic educational issues and trends relevant to the Islamic education. This special section particularly seeks to promote informed dialogues about current issues in Islamic education, and carefully reasoned papers representing disparate viewpoints are welcomed. Manuscripts submitted for this section may be in the form of a position paper, a polemical piece, or a creative commentary.
- Islamic Learning in Everyday Life: consisting of analytical, interpretative, or philosophical papers regarding Islamic educational learning outside of the formal classroom. Papers should investigate experiences in settings such as community, home, the internet, after school settings, mosque, madrasa, and other opportunities that develop interest, knowledge or practices across the life span. Attention to issues and factors relating to equity in Islamic learning are especially encouraged.
- Islamic Religious Teacher: consisting of original empirical and/or theoretical research that examines the preparation of Islamic religious teachers, the work of Islamic religious teachers, or how Islamic religious teachers' work is influenced by a broader context. " Islamic religious education" refers to development throughout the continuum of ones teaching career, from pre-service, through induction, into advanced professional stages of teaching.
- Islamic Education Policy: including reports about the goals and/or underlying principles of policies adopted by government, interest groups, school districts, etc., and their effect on Islamic teaching and learning. Additionally, research on Islamic education policy relates to a critical examination of how theory, research, and practice of Islamic education are influenced by policy decisions.
- Islamic Studies and Science Education: provides a forum for interdisciplinary investigations into Islamic studies and Islamic education. It informs and derives perspectives from history, philosophy, anthropology, and sociology as well as cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence to contribute to the theory, methodology, policy, and practice of Islamic education.
- Comments and Criticism: provides a forum for the expression of differing viewpoints and the correction of misunderstanding regarding topics in published papers. Readers of the journal are earnestly invited to contribute their ideas to this forum. Contributions for the Comments and Criticismsection should be relatively brief, normally two to four manuscript pages, and will be published as rapidly as possible.
- Books: covering reviews of recently published books in the field.
In addition, the journal regularly carries a Comments and Criticism section which provides a forum for the expression of differing viewpoints and commentary and clarification of topics in published papers.
The Journal Editorial Board invites any manuscript addressing a relevant Islamic education topic that employs an established and recognized scholarly approach and also impacts or is generalizable to national and international populations. Quantitative research reports that employ sophisticated research designs and qualitative research reports that rigorously follow naturalistic research methods are preferred. One or two variable tests employing simple inferential statistics and poorly described and argued qualitative research are discouraged. All manuscripts must provide a thorough review of the literature that establishes the research problem or the issue at hand as well as a thorough conclusion that addresses the implications and limitations of the research or argument.

Article Policy
Al-Bahtsu: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Islam journal recognize the importance of the integrity and completeness of the scholarly record to researchers and librarians and attach the highest importance to maintaining trust in the authority of its electronic archive.
It is a general principle of scholarly communication that the editor of a learned journal is solely and independently responsible for deciding which articles submitted to the journal shall be published. In making this decision, the editor is guided by policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. An outcome of this principle is the importance of the scholarly archive as a permanent, historical record of the transactions of scholarship. Articles that have been publishing shall remain extant, exact and unaltered as far as is possible. However, very occasionally circumstances may arise where an article is published that must later be retracted or even removed. Such actions must not be undertaken lightly and can only occur under exceptional circumstances. In all cases, our official archives will retain all article versions, including retracted or otherwise removed articles.
We designed this policy to address these concerns and to take into account current best practice in the scholarly and library communities. As standards evolve and change, we will revisit this issue and welcome the input of scholarly and library communities. We believe these issues require international standards, and we will be active in lobbying various information bodies to establish international standards and best practices that the publishing and information industries can adopt.
Article withdrawal
Only used for Articles in Press which represent early versions of articles and sometimes contain errors, or may have been accidentally submitted twice. Occasionally, but less frequently, the articles may represent infringements of professional, ethical codes, such as multiple submission, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like. Articles that have been accepted for publication but have not been formally published, and then found to be accidental duplicates of other published article(s), or are considered to violate our journal ethics guidelines in the view of the editors will be withdrawn. Withdrawn means that the article content (HTML and PDF) is removed from the issue.
Article retraction
Article retraction is infringements of professional, ethical codes, such as multiple submission, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like. Occasionally a retraction will be used to correct errors in submission or publication. The retraction of an article by its authors or editor has long been an occasional feature of the learning world. Standards for dealing with retractions have been developed by several library and scholarly bodies, and this best practice is adopted for article retraction by Al-Bahtsu: Jurnal Penelitian Pendidikan Islam journal:
- A retraction note titled "Retraction: [article title]" signed by the authors and/or the editor is published in the paginated part of a subsequent issue of the journal and listed in the contents list.
- In the electronic version, a link is made to the original article.
- The online article is preceded by a screen containing the retraction note. It is to this screen that the link resolves; the reader can then proceed to the article itself.
- The original article is retained unchanged save for a watermark on the .pdf indicating on each page that it is "retracted."
- The HTML version of the document is removed.
Article removal: legal limitations
In a minimal number of cases, it may be necessary to remove an article from the online database. The removal of the article will occur when the article is defamatory or infringes others' legal rights, or when the article is, or we have good reason to expect it will be, the subject of a court order, or where the article if acted upon pose a severe health risk. In these circumstances, while the metadata (Title and Authors) will be retained, the text will be replaced with a screen indicating the article has been removed for legal reasons.
Article replacement
In cases where the article, if acted upon, might pose a severe health risk, the authors of the original article may wish to retract the flawed original and replace it with a corrected version. In these circumstances, the procedures for retraction will be followed with the difference that the database retraction notice will publish a link to the corrected re-published article and a history of the document.
