Fenomena Bapak Rumah Tangga Perspektif Qirā'ah Mubādalah Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir (Studi Kasus di Kelurahan Singotrunan, Kecamatan Banyuwangi, Kabupaten Banyuwangi)

Abstract

The phenomenon of “househusbands” has become increasingly relevant in the context of modern family life. This study aims to explain the dynamics of husband-wife relationships in situations where the husband assumes domestic responsibilities while the wife works outside the home, and to analyze this phenomenon through the lens of qirā'ah mubādalah, as conceptualized by Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir. Employing empirical legal research with a phenomenological and sociological approach, this research was conducted in Singotrunan Subdistrict, Banyuwangi District, Indonesia. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation from four families experiencing this role shift, along with supporting informants such as neighborhood leaders and religious figures. The findings indicate that the shift in roles does not diminish the husband's authority or self-worth within the family. These men still feel valued due to their contributions in childcare, household management, and emotional support for their partners. Wives also feel appreciated and supported in their dual roles as breadwinners and mothers. The relationship is built on mutual understanding, open communication, and shared agreements. Viewed through the framework of qirā'ah mubādalah, these relationships embody principles of justice and gender reciprocity emphasized in progressive Islamic thought. This concept reinterprets spousal roles as complementary and context-based, rather than strictly determined by gender. Thus, the househusband phenomenon is not a deviation, but rather a reflection of adaptive and equitable family dynamics.
