Abstract

Background: Self-confidence is a critical psychological factor that influences students' academic achievement and motivation. Despite its importance, many students in Arabic Language Education (PBA) programs exhibit low self-confidence, characterized by passivity, reluctance to participate in discussions, and anxiety when expressing opinions during presentations. This study addresses the gap in understanding how self-confidence specifically influences achievement motivation among PBA students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu.Method: This quantitative study employed a simple linear regression design. The population consisted of 63 second-semester PBA students, with a sample of 40 students (30 females, 10 males) selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire with a five-point Likert scale, administered via Google Forms. The instrument underwent validity and reliability testing before use. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26.Results: The analysis yielded a regression equation of Y = 9.400 + 0.471X, indicating that a one-point increase in self-confidence corresponds to a 0.471-point increase in achievement motivation. The Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.589 demonstrates a moderately strong positive relationship. Statistical tests confirmed significance (F = 20.170, p < .001; t = 4.491, p < .001). Self-confidence contributes 34% to the variance in achievement motivation. Students actively involved in organizational activities demonstrated higher self-confidence due to enhanced public speaking skills and social interaction opportunities. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate a significant positive influence of self-confidence on achievement motivation among PBA students. Based on these results, universities should implement structured programs such as MLA (Arabic Language Council), extracurricular activities, and continuous practice opportunities to enhance student self-confidence. Developing self-confidence is essential for improving achievement motivation and ultimately academic performance in higher education contexts.
