Abstract

Background: This study investigates the influence of self-confidence on achievement motivation among second-semester Arabic Language Education (PBA) students at UIN Fatmawati Sukarno Bengkulu. Despite recognition of self-confidence as a critical factor for academic success, many students exhibit passive behavior, anxiety in expressing opinions, and reluctance to participate during presentations, hindering their motivation to achieve. Methods: Using a quantitative approach with simple linear regression design, data were collected from 40 students (30 females, 10 males) through validated questionnaires with a five-point Likert scale distributed via Google Forms. Data analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 26.Results: The regression equation Y = 9.400 + 0.471X indicates that each one-point increase in self-confidence corresponds to a 0.471-point increase in achievement motivation. The correlation coefficient of 0.589 demonstrates a moderately strong positive relationship, while the significance test (F = 20.170, p < .001, t = 4.491, p < .001) confirms statistical significance. Self-confidence contributes 34% to achievement motivation variance, with the remaining 66% influenced by other factors. Findings reveal that students involved in organizational activities demonstrate higher self-confidence due to enhanced public speaking practice and social interaction. Conclusion: Self-confidence significantly and positively influences achievement motivation among PBA students. The study recommends that universities implement structured programs such as discussion forums (MLA), extracurricular activities, and continuous skill training to enhance student self-confidence, thereby improving their achievement motivation and academic performance.
