Aurat Perempuan dalam Surat Al-Nur Ayat 31 Perspektif Husein Muhammad dan Muhammad Husein Tabataba’i

Abstract


Aurat is an urgent matter for women, because it protects their self-esteem. One of the theological foundations that supports the obligation to cover the private parts is Surah an-Nur verse 31. Husein Muhammad in the book Women's Fiqh explains that the private parts are divided into 2 categories, namely, free women and slaves. Both have different intimate boundaries. Husein Muhammad is based on the opinions of 4 madzhab scholars. However, he is not focused on textual matters, for him the opinions of scholars which depart from the interpretation of the Koran also take into account social and cultural aspects. Meanwhile, Muhammad Husein Tabataba'I in his book al-Mizan Fi Tafsir al-Qur'an explains that Muslim women's private parts should not be shown not only to men who are not mahram, but this also applies to non-Muslim women for fear of slander. This is because he is based on the opinion of the Ja'fari school of thought. The two figures have different theological leanings as well as different backgrounds. Husein Muhammad came from the Indonesian Muslim community which incidentally is Sunni. Meanwhile, Husein Tabatab'I comes from the Iranian Muslim community, which is predominantly Shia. These two figures have common ground as influential intellectual figures in the Islamic world and are active in preaching in society. Based on this difference, there is academic anxiety which results in two problem formulations, namely: 1) How is the interpretation of Surah an-Nur verse 31 according to Husein Muhammad and M. Husein Tabataba'i? 2) What is the relevance of the interpretation of Surah an-Nur verse 31 from the perspective of Husein Muhammad and M. Husein Tabataba'i? This research uses a comparative method (Muqoron) so that the points of contact and rivalry between the two figures can be understood. Apart from that, you can also understand the context of the understanding of the two Muslim scholars.
