Abstract

This study aims to analyze the practice of Arabic-English code-mixing in Bayou's song “Call Her Right Now” from an anthropological perspective using Silverstein's indexical order framework. This study applies a qualitative method based on literature review, utilizing six main sources and additional relevant literature. The results of the analysis show that code-mixing in this song does not occur randomly, but follows a structured pattern of alternation: English dominates the verses with a narrative function and cosmopolitan style, while Arabic fills the chorus and post-chorus as an affective and expressive realm that emphasizes cultural closeness. These findings confirm that code-mixing in Arabic popular music is a semiotic practice laden with social meaning, not merely an aesthetic choice.
