Abstract

The issue of discussing women's leadership and politics in an Islamic perspective is an urgent matter to be discussed, in fact it has always been a topic of debate. Women have an important role in society. However, the notion that women are only subordinated to men is an understanding that emerges through QS: An-Nisa Verse 34. This verse in classical and medieval interpretations is used as a justification in describing the superiority of men over women. Amina Wadud is a Muslim-feminist intellectual to carry out methodological developments in order to produce interpretations with a gender perspective and social justice. Amina Wadud's thoughts in understanding and interpreting gender-themed verses, as in the case of women being the Imam of prayer. So, through the thoughts of Amina Wadud which are considered controversial, it is enough to attract the author's attention in seeing how Wadud views in terms of Leadership and Politics. This research is a library research. The conclusion in this study, Amina Wadud's thoughts, were influenced by situational factors, which then prompted Wadud to review the way of interpreting the classical commentators which according to Wadud was more of a patriarchal interpretation, placing men above women, whose interpretation was subjective. According to Amina Wadud, basically these verses give equal position between men and women, without placing men above women. The same is true in leadership and politics.
